Windows Vista Certification

Becoming Vista Certified just might be the solution to entering the IT industry. It can also assist those who are interested in improving their skills as an IT professional.

In January of 2007 Microsoft released Exam 70-620 TS: Microsoft Windows Vista. Through this certification exam an IT professional gains training on how to become an expert in working with the Vista operating system, earning their Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification.

According to Microsoft the MCTS certification has different portions which have to be mastered in order to gain a passing exam score. Exam 70-620 is designed to train and test the following areas:

  • Installing and Upgrading Windows Vista
  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Post-Installation System Settings
  • Configure Windows Security Features
  • Configuring Network Connectivity
  • Configuring Applications Included with Windows Vista
  • Maintaining and Optimizing Systems That Run Vista
  • Configuring and Troubleshooting Mobile Computing

One of the questions which many IT professionals want to know is if this exam might replace the MCSE or MCSA exams. I haven’t been able to come up with a clear answer that proves this will be the case. There is speculation that yes, the popular MCSE exam could be replaced; however Microsoft hasn’t stated that this will happen. What we do know for sure is that the IT industry is constantly changing and trying to develop more efficient manners to solve and answer problems. Vista is a crack at this from Microsoft in my opinion, and though right now it may not be the most popular operating system, it has the potential to be the direction of companies in the future. If this were the case, the new and upcoming certification courses Microsoft is offering now might be the most beneficial certifications to pursue.

Careful preparation for Exam 70-620 is crucial to gaining the MCTS certification. There are different routes one can take in order to most efficiently prepare. CBT courses are one of the most popular routes in becoming prepared for certification exams. Through these courses users are provided with the ability to set their own pace and the option to cover material as many times as needed prepare.
